ROME --Â After fall in the first set, the Lady Hawks kicked into gear; topping West Alabama 3-1 on senior night at the Winthrop-King Centre.
Shorter improves to 14-10 on the year and 12-6 in the Gulf South Conference with the win; while the Tigers slip to 9-18 overall and 7-10 in the GSC.
Set scores were 23-15, 25-17, 25-16, and 25-17, respectively.
Elizabeth Dowd led the attack for Shorter, tallying 17 kills on the night; while
Tiffani Estep chipped in with 11, and
Madeline Munroe added 8. Shorter's lone senior,
Dena Pierce, turned in a match high 30 assists in her last regular season match at WKC.
Cheyenne Frady added 21. Shorter finished with seven aces on the night, with
Morgan Cleveland leading the effort with three, Dowd added two, and both,
Cheyenne McLemore and
Kelsi Jones turned in one.
Dowd also led the team on the receiving end with 16 digs in the match. And was joined in double figures by three additional Lady Hawks – Pierce with 12, McLemore with 11, and Cleveland with 10. At the net, Estep posted an assist on three of Shorter's four blocks on the night.
Shorter will close out the regular season on the road next week when they travel to Lee on November 11 and then to Mississippi College on November 14. Â
