HUNTSVILLE -- It was another close one, but in the end the Hawks held on to move to 3-0 on the year with a 66-61 win over Trevecca Nazarene in Huntsville, Ala.
After trading baskets to open the game, Shorter took the lead for good with 14:38 to go in the first half as
Joseph Bobbitt netted a layup to make it an 11-10 game. And, from there the Hawks built their lead, taking a 10-point advantage into halftime. In the second frame the Trojans began chipping away and pulled to within one on a three pointer from Tyrell Corlew to make it a 62-61 game with just over two minutes to play. But, the Hawks stood firm, and netted four consecutive free throw to close out the win, 66-61.
Phil Taylor led Shorter with a game high 26 points; while
Chris Daniels and
Alijah Bennett each added 10. The Trojans were led by Byron Sanford's 26 points.
Shorter will be back in action in Huntsville Saturday afternoon when they close out play at the UAH Classic against Stillman College at 2:00pm eastern.
