Huntsville, Ala. --Â Six finished in double-figures as the Hawks held on to top Stillman 100-93 Saturday afternoon in Huntsville, Ala.
Shorter improves to 4-0 on the year with the win, while Stillman falls to 3-2 on the year.
After trading the lead back-and-forth in the opening minutes, the Hawks took its first lead of the half on a three pointer from
Cole Birchfield to make it a 12-9 game with 16:40 to go. Stillman fought back, and over the next five minutes the teams once again traded the lead. With the game tied at 18 with 12:57 to play, a three pointer from
Matt Catanzano sparked a run that gave the Hawks the lead for good, taking a 60-46 advantage into the halftime break.
Despite increasing their lead to as many as 17 in the second half, the Tigers kept things close down the stretch as they were able cut the lead to as little as two with 1:49 to go when Kairo Cannon netted a layup to make it a 93-91 game. But the Hawks answered to close out the game on a 7-2 run to record the 100-93 final score. Â
Phil Taylor led Shorter with 24 points on the day, while
Alijah Bennett added 22. Both
Chris Daniels and Catanzano finished with 12, and Birchfield and
Trevor McDade added 11 each.
Shorter will be back in action Tuesday, November 24, when they travel to North Georgia for a 7:00pm start.
