ROME -- After dropping the first set, the Lady Hawks came back and topped Lee 3-1 Thursday night.
Shorter improves to 8-4 on the season and 6-3 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Flames fall to 7-7 overall and 3-6 in the GSC. The win also upped the Lady Hawks win streak to three games.
Set scores were 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, and 25-18, respectively.
Elizabeth Dowd led the attack for the Lady Hawks; tallying a match high 14 kills.
BreAnna Thompson also finished in double figures with 10, while
Alicia McClellan and
Tiffani Estep finished with eight and seven, respectively. In total Shorter tallied five aces on the night with both,
Kelsi Jones and
Cheyenne Frady, tallying two each. Frady and
Dena Pierce split time at setter, totaling 19 assists each.
Defensively, four finished in double figures with digs;
Cheyenne McLemore led with 21, Pierce added 13, and both, Dowd and Frady, recorded 11. In total, the Lady Hawks posted eight blocks with Estep having a hand in six – two solo, four assisted.
Shorter will be back in action Friday afternoon at 6:00pm as Mississippi College visits the Winthrop-King Centre.
