Pensacola, Fla. -- Despite putting up almost identical stats, the Argos just narrowly edged past the Hawks, earning the win 1-0 in Pensacola Sunday afternoon.
In total, Shorter (3-5-1, 1-1 GSC) and No. 15 West Florida (7-2, 2-2 GSC) tallied almost identical stat lines. The Argos total 14 shots on the day, the Hawks 13, but West Florida found the advantage where it mattered as Jorge Chirinos netted the only goal of the contest in the 49
th minute to give the Argos the lead and ultimately the win.
Also similar, West Florida finished with five corner kicks in the game, and Shorter took four. Both teams were called offside one time.
Austen Trevers tallied four saves in goal for the Hawks, while Argo goalkeeper, Jacob Murray, made two.
Charlie Dennis led the attack for Shorter, taking seven shots - with just one being on target.
Fernando De Barros added two for the Hawks, and
Darwin Lom,
Christopher Cummins,
Mark Hanlon and
Augusto Barreto each chipped in with one.
Shorter will return to action and to Ben Brady Field as they host Alabama Huntsville for a 6:00pm start.
