ROME --Â The Lady Hawks fell to North Alabama, 3-2, Saturday afternoon.
Shorter slips to 11-8 on the year and 9-4 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 19-6 overall and 12-2 in the GSC.
Shorter took the first set with a commanding performance to take a 1-0 lead in the match, jumping out to a 10-1 lead and forcing UNA to use both of its timeouts early the Lady Hawks looked poised to avenge its 3-0 setback from early in the season. Shorter won the first set, 25-16, but the Lions answered in the second set with a 25-20 win. Only to have the Lady Hawks take the third set 25-17, but again UNA answered, winning the fourth set 25-20 to tie the match at two. The Lions earned the win with a 15-9 victory in the final set, one in which Shorter couldn't find its rhythm.
Shorter put forth a balanced attack as five players almost finished with double digit kills. In the end,
Madeline Munroe and
Tiffani Estep led the way with 11 kills on the afternoon; while
Elizabeth Dowd,
BreAnna Thompson and
Alicia McClellan finished with 9.
Cheyenne Frady turned in a season high in assists with 29, and
Dena Pierce added 16 for the Lady Hawks.
Dowd led Shorter on the receiving end with 19 digs in the match; while
Cheyenne McLemore added 16 and Frady chipped in with 12. The Lady Hawks finished with seven blocks on the day, led by McClellan; who turned in one solo and three assisted.
Shorter will return to action Tuesday, October 27, when they welcome Union to the Winthrop-King Centre for a 6:00pm start.
