ROME -- The Lady Hawks got back in the win column, topping Union in three sets Tuesday evening at the Winthrop-King Centre.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-14, 26-24. After Shorter took a 2-0 lead in the match, Union (8-15, 7-7 GSC) stepped thing up in the third set. But, Shorter kept fighting, and the teams traded the lead for much of the set. Tied 23-23, Union tallied a kill to move to set point, but the Lady Hawks answered with three consecutive to points to close out the set and the win.
Elizabeth Dowd and
Madeline Munroe led the attack for Shorter (12-9, 10-4 GSC) posting eight kills each in the match.
Tiffani Estep added six.
Cheyenne Frady turned in a team high 17 assists, while
Dena Pierce dished out 11. Five Lady Hawks posted a service ace on the night in the win.
Three finished in double-figure digs with Munroe leading the way with 12,
Cheyenne McLemore added 11, and Dowd posted 10. Shorter also posted five blocks on the night with
Alicia McClellan finishing with one solo and one assisted; while both Estep and Dowd assisted on two.
Shorter will have a tough road ahead this weekend as they travel to Pensacola to take on No. 23 West Florida Friday and then close out the trip at Valdosta State on Saturday.Â
