Hawks win GSC opener over Spring Hill

Mobile, Ala. -- The Hawks opened Gulf South Conference play Friday afternoon, topping Spring Hill 4-1 in Mobile, Ala.

Shorter moves to 3-4-1 on the year with the victory and 1-0 in the GSC; while the Badgers fall to 2-6 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

The game remained scoreless until the 62nd minute when Darwin Lom netted his first goal of the day to put the Hawks ahead, 1-0. Six minutes later, Charlie Dennis found the back of the net, and Christopher Cummins followed with a goal in the 72nd minute. Lom closed out the scoring for Shorter three minutes later to bring the Hawks' advantage to 4-0. The Badgers did, however, break the shutout in the 78th minute on a goal from Joakim Aakerlund for the 4-1 final score.

In total, the Hawks outshot Spring Hill 19-10, and held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Austen Trevers played the complete game in goal for Shorter, making four saves in the game.

The Hawks will look to keep the momentum going Sunday, October 4, when they take on No. 15 West Florida in Pensacola. Game time is set for 4:00pm Eastern.
