Carrollton, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks dropped both matches on Saturday to conclude play that the South Region Crossover hosted by the University of West Georgia. Opening the day, Shorter fell to Lynn 3-0, and closed the day with a 3-1 loss to St. Leo.
Shorter slips to 10-7 on the year.
Set scores versus Lynn were 25-20, 25-22, and 25-22, respectively.
Against the Fighting Knights,
Tiffani Estep led the attack for Shorter; tallying six kills in the match. While, both
BreAnna Thompson and
Madeline Munroe added five each. The Lady Hawks posted seven service aces in the match with
Lauren Meyer and Munroe serving up two each.
Dena Pierce posted eleven assists in the match, and
Cheyenne Frady added nine for Shorter.
Cheyenne McLemore led the Lady Hawks on the receiving end with 14 digs in the match, while
Elizabeth Dowd recorded eight and Pierce added six.
St. Leo took the lead in the final match of the day with a 25-19 win the first set, but Shorter fought back to tie things up with a 25-23 win in the second set. Only to have the Lions win the final sets (25-19, 25-22) to earn the win.
The Lady Hawks finished with three players in double-digits in kills - Munroe, Dowd, and Estep all finished with eleven for the match. Frady turned in a team high 22 assists, while Pierce added 18. Munroe also chipped in with two aces for the game.
Defensively, had four players with more than ten digs as McLemore once again turned in a team high with 23; Dowd added 18, Frady 15, and Pierce 10. Shorter also finished with six block - Estep posted two solo and assisted on three for Shorter.
Estep was the lone Lady Hawk to earn All-Tournament accolades. In total for the weekend she tallied 22 kills with 8 errors in 59 total attempts. While also having a hand in 10 blocks and recording 6 digs.
The Lady Hawks will return to Gulf South Conference play this weekend, October 23-24, as they welcome Alabama Huntsville and North Alabama to the Winthrop-King Centre.
