Hawks top West Georgia, 109-92

ROME -- The Hawks were up to the challenge that faced them Monday night as the GSC's top scoring team visited the Winthrop-King Centre, turning in a dominant performance to upend West Georgia 109-92.

Shorter moves to 10-4 on the year with the win and 5-3 in conference play; while the Wolves slip to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in the GSC.

The first half was back and forth as the traded the lead 10 times in the frame, but the Hawks put the game away taking the lead for good as Dedric Ware netted his first points of the game on a jumper with 1:52 to go in the half and closed out the period on a 9-1 run to take a 7 point lead in the break.

In the second frame Shorter didn't let up, stretching the lead to as many as 21 while allowing everyone an opportunity to contribute. Tyler Alderman led the team with a game high 28 points – 9 of which came in the opening minutes of the game, where he scored 9 of the Hawks first 11 points. Ware, while quiet in the first half, made up for it in the second tallying 19 points to go along with 12 assists. Jordan Jacks just missed a double-double of his own; posting 18 points and 9 rebounds. While both Chris Daniels and Trevor McDade added 11 points each. Kordario Fleming also finished with a double-double turning in 10 points and 11 rebounds.

In total the Hawks held the Wolves to 48% shooting, while turning in a 58% mark themselves and holding a 48-24 advantage in rebounds.  

Deonta Stocks – the GSC's leading scorer – paced the Wolves, posting a team high 26 points and was one of five players to finish in double figures. Marcus Dotch added 20 points, Alex Abreu chipped in with 12 and both Emory Bernard and Jovany Austin added 11.

Shorter will look to keep the current streak going this weekend as they travel to Mississippi for GSC doubleheader – Saturday against Mississippi College at 5:00pm and Monday against Delta State at 8:00pm. Thursday, January 15, the Hawks will close out the first half of conference play as longtime rival, Lee University, visits the Winthrop-King Centre for an 8:00pm tip.
