Hawks top Mississippi College, 90-85

Clinton, Miss. -- The Hawks hung on to top Mississippi College 90-85 Saturday afternoon in Clinton, Miss.

Shorter moves to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the Gulf South Conference with the win, while the Choctaws slip to 6-5 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.

After trading the lead for much of the first half the Hawks began pulling away in the final eight minutes of the frame; building their lead to as many as 11 and taking a 44-39 advantage into the break. The Choctaws fought back in the second half, opening the period on a four minute 11-6 run to tie the game 50-50 with 15:59 to go. Again, the teams traded baskets, but Tyler Alderman netted the go ahead to give Shorter the lead for good with 7:32 to play on a tip in to make it a 74-72 game. Down the stretch the Hawks outscored MC 16-13.

Shorter finished with four players in double figures. Leading the way was Jordan Jacks; who posted his GSC leading seventh double-double of the season with a game high 25 points and 10 rebounds. Dedric Ware added 20 points and 8 assists, Alderman finished with 15 points, and Trevor McDade chipped in with 12 points.

The Choctaws were led by Emmanuel Ezejiofo's 18 points; while Rayner Fredrick, Johnny Rucker, and Tory Rice each added 16 points. Rice also led with 10 rebounds.

The Hawks shot 54 percent in the game; while holding Mississippi College to 45 percent.

Shorter will look to keep the win streak going as they travel to Delta State for an 8:30pm ET tip on Monday.
