Memphis, Tenn. --Â The Hawks made a statement Thursday night, topping Christian Brothers on the road, 96-65, to start the second half of conference play.
Shorter improves to 13-5 on the season and 8-4 in conference play; while the Bucs fall to 8-8 overall and 5-7 in the GSC. The win also puts the Hawks into what could be a five-way tie for first place in the league standings, depending on the outcomes of the games between Delta State/West Alabama and Union/Lee.
Shorter shot 57 percent in the game – 47 percent from beyond the arc – and went 12 for 17 from the line. While, holding the Bucs to 36 percent shooting and just 13 percent from 3-point range.
The Hawks took the lead early, and never looked back; opening the game on a 13-2 run, and leading by as many as 29 in the frame. Christian Brothers struggled to get anything going early on, and Shorter took advantage of the sluggish start by taking a 51-23 lead into the break.
The Bucs picked things up in the second frame, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks had already put the game away.
Jordan Jacks led the offensive surge for Shorter, tallying a game high 23 points. Joining him in double figures were
Dedric Ware,
Kordario Fleming and
Travis Jones; who chipped in with 19, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Jones just missed recording a double-double in the game by adding a team high 9 rebounds.
The Bucs finished with two players in double figures – Drew Hildreth with 15 and Sidy Sall with 11.
The Hawks will be back in action Saturday at 5:00pm eastern as they travel to Union in search of the season split with the Bulldogs.Â
