ROME -- For the second time in as many weeks one of Shorter's women's soccer players has earned Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week honors. This time the recognition was given to Lady Hawks' goalkeeper, Alden Powell.

Despite a tough week for Shorter, Powell continued to show the hard work and determination that she has portrayed all season. Entering conference play she sat atop the GSC statistics having only allowed one goal on the season, and recording 302:47 scoreless minutes for the Lady Hawks.

During the week she totaled 17 saves on 39 shots, while allowing four goals.

Shorter got back on track, Sunday with a 1-0 win over West Georgia thanks to dominant performance from Powell as she tallied her fourth clean sheet of the season making 8 saves on 10 total shots, 8 on goal; a record that not only places her second on Shorter's single season all-time list, but also second on Shorter's all-time career list.

On the season, Powell has recorded 32 saves on 69 shots, allowing just five goals through seven starts.

The Lady Hawks will return to action as GSC newcomer, Spring Hill, visits Ben Brady Field Friday for a 5:00pm start.
