Lawrenceville, Ga. --Â Saturday the Hawks travelled to Lawrenceville to take on the NAIA's 7th ranked Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies, and after 110 minutes of play the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Shorter moves to 1-5-1 on the season, while Georgia Gwinnett goes to 6-1-1.
The Grizzlies got on the board first, scoring in the 28th minute on a goal from Ruud Grol.
The Hawks looked for chances throughout the first half, taking seven shots during the frame, but couldn't find the equalizer and went into the intermission trailing 1-0.
After the break, Shorter was able to create more chances and tied things up in the 71st minute on a shot from
Irvin Espinal that was assisted by
Fernando De Barros and
Sam Clare.
With the game now tied, both teams eagerly searched for the go ahead, but after two overtime periods the game ended in a tie – the first for both teams this season.
Hawks' goalkeeper,
Nicolas Ferrigno, played the complete game for Shorter making 10 saves on 18 shots, 11 on goal. Lewis Sharpe made 5 saves in the game while facing 17 shots, with 7 on goal.
Shorter will return to action on Friday, October 3, as they begin Gulf South Conference play when conference newcomer, Spring Hill, visits Ben Brady Field for a 7:00pm game.
