ROME --Â In the first Gulf South Conference game of the season Friday night the Hawks topped GSC newcomer, Spring Hill 3-0.
The win, Shorter's second of the season, moves the Hawks to 2-5-1 overall; while Spring Hill goes to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
The Hawks turned in a complete performance across the board, and saw a lot of different players see action. Shorter took the lead in the 27th minute on
Ryan Horn's first of two goals on the night as he headed in a shot from
Charlie Dennis and
Fernando De Barros.
Leading 1-0 at the intermission, the Hawks looked for more chances to extend the lead, and did just that late in the game. First on a shot from
Lucas Cavenco in the 70
th minute, and again nine minutes later as Horn netted his second goal.
In total Shorter outshot the Badgers 17-7.
Hawks' goalkeeper,
Nicolas Ferrigno, turned in his first clean sheet of the season making four saves through 90 minutes. Patrick Danner posted five saves in the game for Spring Hill while allowing 3 goals.
Shorter will return to action Sunday afternoon as West Florida visits Ben Brady Field for a 4:00pm start.
