Hawks begin GSC play with 3-0 win

ROME -- In the first Gulf South Conference game of the season Friday night the Hawks topped GSC newcomer, Spring Hill 3-0.

The win, Shorter's second of the season, moves the Hawks to 2-5-1 overall; while Spring Hill goes to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

The Hawks turned in a complete performance across the board, and saw a lot of different players see action. Shorter took the lead in the 27th minute on Ryan Horn's first of two goals on the night as he headed in a shot from Charlie Dennis and Fernando De Barros.

Leading 1-0 at the intermission, the Hawks looked for more chances to extend the lead, and did just that late in the game. First on a shot from Lucas Cavenco in the 70th minute, and again nine minutes later as Horn netted his second goal.

In total Shorter outshot the Badgers 17-7.

Hawks' goalkeeper, Nicolas Ferrigno, turned in his first clean sheet of the season making four saves through 90 minutes. Patrick Danner posted five saves in the game for Spring Hill while allowing 3 goals.

Shorter will return to action Sunday afternoon as West Florida visits Ben Brady Field for a 4:00pm start.
