ROME --Â The Lady Hawks used a late second half run to earn their first conference win of the season, 66-64 over Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon at home.
The win improves Shorter to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play this season; while the Lady Bucs move to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in the GSC.
Despite trailing 37-27 at halftime, the Lady Hawks didn't give up and began chipping away at the deficit late in the second half to earn the win. Midway through the second frame, Shorter used a 10-7 run to tie the game on a layup from
Cynara Pitt, and then took the lead with 8:28 to go as
Ieshia Alexander netted a three pointer.
CBU didn't let up, though, coming back to tie the game once again with 37 seconds to go as Rachel Lee converted two free throws to make it a, 64-64, game. But, Alexander gave the Lady Hawks the win as she netted two of four free throws in the final seconds.
Maggie Peeples, who was back for Shorter after missing a few games with a broken nose, tallied a team high 13 points. Alexander also reach double figures, recording 11 in the game.
Jackie Hudson just missed with 9 points for the Lady Hawks.
The Lady Bucs had three players finish with double figures; led by Breanna Ridgell's game high 26. Courtney Banks added 16, and Taylor Pugh chipped in with 12.
Shorter will be on the road next week as they travel to West Florida Thursday, December 11, and Valdosta State Monday, December 15. Both games are set for 6pm eastern.
