Kissimmee, Fla. -- A second half hat trick from
Christopher Cummins gave the Hawks the win, 5-1, over Bluefield College Monday evening in their first game of the 2014 NCCAA National Championship.
Josh Addinal put Shorter on the board in the 16
th minute, and
Charlie Dennis added to the lead seven minutes later to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage at the break.
The Rams cut the lead in half in the opening minutes of the second frames, but couldn't take the lead. Cummins then bolstered the win for the Hawks with three goals late in the second for the 5-1 final sore.
Shorter dominated play on offense for the majority of the game, tallying 26 shots – with 15 on goal – all while holding Bluefield to 3 total shots, and one on goal.
The Hawks continue pool play Wednesday as they take on Bethel College at 7:00pm. The winner of the pool will advance to Friday's semifinals.
