Lady Hawks cruise past UAH, 78-56

ROME -- After jumping out to an early lead the Lady Hawks cruised to a 78-56 win over Alabama Huntsville Thursday evening.

Shorter moves to 6-5 on the season and 2-3 in conference play, while the Chargers fall to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Shaundricka Mann gave the Lady Hawks the lead with 17:10 to go in the opening frame, 8-6, and Shorter didn't look back mounting a lead they wouldn't give up. During the first twenty minutes the Lady Hawks shot a blistering 72% from beyond the arc; making 8-11 from 3-point range.

UAH, trailing by 27 at the intermission stepped up in the second half cutting the Lady Hawks lead to 18 with 9:59 to go, but couldn't get any closer as Shorter kept the momentum going for the remainder of the game.

Shorter's bench made the most of its time; scoring 42 points. Tamarr Williams led the Lady Hawks with a career high 15 points – all from beyond the arc. Maggie Peeples added 13 points, while both Cynara Pitt and Madison Rice chipped in 10.

The Chargers were led by Halle Jarnagin's game high 19 points. She was joined in double figures by Dina Saunders and Caroline Dodd; who each added 10 points.

Shorter will look to keep the momentum going Saturday as they close out the 2014 portion of the season when North Alabama visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a 2:00pm tip.
