Valdosta, Ga. --Â The Lady Hawks dropped their second straight, falling to Valdosta 69-54 on the road Monday evening.
Shorter moves to 5-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play, while the Blazers improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Gulf South Conference.
The Lady Hawks scored first, jumping out to a 4-0 lead to start the game as
Maggie Peeples and
Lindsey Crawford netted back to back layups. Valdosta then went on a 7-2 run to take a lead they wouldn't give up with 17:34 to play.
Shorter trailed 31-27 at the break, but fought back in the second half to cut the lead to one as
Ieshia Alexander completed the three point play to make it a 33-34 game with 18:45 to go. The Blazers, however, began pulling way; using an eight minute 15-3 run to put the game out of the Lady Hawks' reach.
Shaundricka Mann led Shorter with 11 points in the game, while Alexander added 10 and Crawford tallied 9.
Cynara Pitt posted a team high 8 rebounds.
Valdosta State had three players finish in double figures with April Thomas leading the way with 19, Imari Simpson chipped in with 14, and Jordan Waugh added 10.
The Lady Hawks will return home to close out the 2014 portion of the season Thursday as they host Alabama Huntsville, and Saturday against North Alabama. Game time are set for 6:00pm and 2:00pm, respectively.
