ROME -- The Lady Hawks secured the Gulf South Conference regular season championship and the top seed for next weekend's conference tournament with 3-0 wins over Union Friday evening and Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon.
Against the Bulldogs on Friday, Shorter (21-4, 18-2 GSC) cruised to the win via 25-14, 30-28, and 25-20 set scores, respectively. Christian Brothers (16-14, 12-8 GSC) kept things close, but the Lady Hawks were able to earn the win in straight sets 28-26, 25-23, 25-22, respectively.
Jasmine Crook led the Shorter in kills against Union (8-23, 3-16 GSC); tallying a match high 12 kills on the night.
Erica Baker recorded 8 in the game.
Cheyenne Frady posted a team high 19 assists, and
Dena Pierce tallied 13 for Shorter in the win.
Defensively,
Elizabeth Dowd, posted a team high 17 digs in the match; while Crook added 16 and
Cheyenne McLemore added 14 for Shorter. Crook also posted a team high 4 blocks in the game – 1 solo and 3 assisted.
Anna Graham posted a team high 14 kills for the Lady Hawks on Saturday against the Lady Bucs; Crook chipped in with 13 in the win. Pierce added 24 assists in the game, and Frady dished out 17.
On the receiving end, McLemore tallied a team high 17 digs in the match; while both Crook and Dowd added 10 each.
Shorter will be back in action Saturday, November 15, at 2:30pm in the second of two GSC Tournament semifinal matches at the Winthrop-King Centre in Rome, Ga.
