Pensacola, Fla. -- The Hawks are in the championship!
Shorter (9-9-1) used two first half goals Friday night to top No.13 Christian Brothers (14-3) to advance to the Gulf South Conference Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm (EST) in Pensacola, Fla.
The victory snapped a 9 game win streak for the Bucs, and gave the Hawks thier first road win of the year.
Lucas Cavenco put Shorter on the board in the 24th minute on pass from
Nico Stutley and
Irvin Espinal, and four minutes later Espinal found the back of the net once again to extend the advantage to 2-0.
The lead proved to be enough as defense dominated the remainder of the game.
Christian Brothers outshot the Hawks 21-16 in game, but both teams placed 7 shots on goal.
Nicolas Ferrigno played the complete game in goal for Shorter; making 7 saves through 90 minutes, and turning in his fifth clean sheet of the season.
