ROME --Â After dropping their first game on the season, Thursday on the road at Southern Indiana, the Hawks got back into the win column Monday night as they topped North Georgia 99-93 at the Winthrop-King Centre.
Shorter improved to 4-1 on the season, while North Georgia moved to 3-1 overall.
The Hawks finished with five players in double figures, and were led by double-doubles from
Jordan Jacks and
Dedric Ware. Jacks posted a game high 24 points to go with 10 rebounds; while Ware tallied 18 points and 12 assists in the game.
Kordario Fleming added 15 points for Shorter,
Tyler Alderman chipped in with 12, and
Chris Daniels posted 11 in the win.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead; starting the game on 11-4 run in the first three minutes of the game. The Nighthawks answered with an 8-1 run of their own to tie the game 12-12 with 15:54 to play. But, Shorter, regained the lead on 3-pointer from Alderman, sparking a huge run from the Hawks; who took a 14 point lead into the intermission, leading 57-43.
In the second half Shorter lead by as many as 15, but North Georgia began chipping away; coming within 3 points of tying the game as TJ Williams netted a jumper to make it an 84-81 game with 6:05 to play. Through the final six minutes, the Nighthawks kept things close, but couldn't overtake Shorter as they held on to win 99-93.
North Georgia also had five players finish in double figures with Shaquan Cantrell leading the way with 22. Williams posted 20, Ebo Smith tallied 14, Sean Brennan added 11, and Tanner Plemmons finished with 10.
The Hawks will be back in action Saturday afternoon as the Point University Skyhawks visit the Winthrop-King Centre for a 4:00pm tip.
