MURFREESBORO, NC – Shorter fell to Southern Wesleyan, 3-1, Thursday in the semifinals of the NCCAA South Region Tournament.
The Hawks move to 10-11-1 on the season; while the Warriors improve 13-6 overall with the win and will take on Palm Beach Atlantic in the championship match Saturday afternoon.
Joao Oliveira put Southern Wesleyan on the board in the 10
th minute on an assist from Alejandro Sanchez. Shorter finally answered in the 49
th minute on a goal from
Irvin Espinal to tie the game 1-1.
Bruno Liozzi once again put the Warriors ahead in the 86
th minute on a penalty kick, Jonathan Ruiz gave Southern Wesleyan the win 3-1, when he found the back of the net three minutes later.
Shorter outshot the Warriors 28-22 in the game; while also recording 7 shots on goal to SWU's 5. Hawks' goalkeeper,
Nicolas Ferrigno made three saves during the game.
The Hawks postseason hopes are still alive as the team could possibly secure an at-large bid the the NCCAA's National Tournament December 1-6 in the Kissimmee, Fla.
