Lady Hawks turn in record breaking win

Americus, Ga. -- In a season that was already full of "firsts", the Lady Hawks added two more to the record book Sunday afternoon, an 11 win season and a new single season shutout record; achieving both with a 3-0 win over Georgia Southwestern on the regular season's final day.

The Lady Hawks earned the win thanks in part to a two-goal day from senior, Cintia Lamas. Her first goal came in the 15th minute and proved to be enough as the Shorter (11-7, 5-7 GSC) defense held Georgia Southwestern (0-18) scoreless.

Lamas added to the lead at the 43:04, and Taylor Hendrix made it a 3-0 game as she found the back of the net in the 51st minute.

Alden Powell made her 15th start in goal for Shorter, making two saves in 84 minutes to earn her 7th clean sheet of the season; which surpassed Taylor Hays record of 6 from 2010. Jamie Allen came in for the final six minutes – her first action of the season – and made a save on the only shot she faced.

In total, Shorter outshot Georgia Southwestern 18-5, and held the advantage 13-3 in shots on goal.

The Lady Hawks will travel to Pensacola, Fla. Tuesday for a 6:00pm game against West Florida in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
