Murfreesboro, N.C. -- The Hawks earned a 5-0 victory over the Bob Jones on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the NCCAA South Region Tournament to advance to tomorrow's semifinal round.
Shorter (10-10-1) will take on Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday at 11:30am.
Fernando De Barros put the Hawks on the board in the 39th minute on an assist from
Mitchell Stephens. The goal proved to be enough as the Hawks held Bob Jones scoreless during the game.
But Shorter didn't stop there, adding four goals after halftime for the 5-0 final score.
Sam Clare netted his first goal of the season on a feed from
Charlie Dennis in the 53rd minute. Then, two minutes later, Dennis found the back of the net to push the Hawks' advantage to 3-0 using
Irvin Espinal's assist.
Robert Ochieng and
Christopher Cummins each added goals for Shorter in the 84th and 87th minute, respectively to confirm the 5-0 win for Shorter.
Bob Jones had nine shots over the course of the contest while Shorter totaled 23 shots on the afternoon.
Nicolas Ferrigno had three saves in the shutout win for Shorter.
