ROME --Â The Lady Hawks have done it again, sweeping North Alabama 3-0 to extend the win streak to 11 and stay perfect in the Gulf South Conference play.
Shorter improves to 13-2 on the season, and 11-0 in conference play; while also improving the overall series record to 5-2. The Lions move to 11-6 overall, and 8-4 in the GSC.
Game score were 25-22, 25-17, and 25-20 respectively.
The first game was back and forth throughout, with Shorter leading by as many as five on multiple occasions. UNA fought back, though, taking the lead, 22-21, but the Lady Hawks tallied four unanswered points to earn the win.
The second game was all Shorter as they jumped out to a four point lead, and didn't let up. On game point for the Lady Hawks, the Lions scored three consecutive points, but it wasn't enough as Shorter lead 24-17, and earned the win on a kill from newly crowned career kill leader,
Jasmine Crook.
In the third game, the Lady Hawks led 16-11, when UNA rallied for five points to tie the game. But, Shorter answered with a 9-4 run to take the game and match win.
Crook led the offense for the Lady Hawks, tallying 12 kills, while
Elizabeth Dowd added 9 for Shorter on the night, to go along with 11 digs.
Dena Pierce and
Cheyenne Frady each recorded 16 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Lady Hawks were led by libero
Cheyenne McLemore; who posted 19 digs, and Frady added 10. Shorter also combined for 10 blocks in the game, with
Anna Graham leading the way with 6 – 1 solo and 5 assisted;
Kelsi Jones chipped in with 4 assisted blocks on the night.
The Lady Hawks will look to keep the streak going Saturday morning at 10:00pm as they travel to Valdosta State for a GSC match-up.Â
