Greenville, S.C. -- After turning the program's best ever start, going 4-0 to open the season, women's soccer has continued to get national recognition. 7-3 overall, and 2-3 in Gulf South Conference (GSC) play the Lady Hawks now boast a No. 8 national ranking in the National Christian College Athletic Association's (NCCAA) latest poll, moving up one spot from last week.
In the NCCAA, Shorter ranks ninth in goals against average, having only given up an average of one goal per game; while goalkeeper,
Alden Powell, is ranked 7th overall based on stats through last weekend. In total she has allowed just 8 goals on the season, and turned in 5 clean sheets – a stat that ranks her first in the GSC.
With the Lady Hawks turning their attention back to conference play this weekend, Shorter will enter the games against Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama looking to keep the momentum going from Tuesday 2-0 win over non-conference foe, Emmanuel College. The Lady Hawks dominated play on offense in the win, keeping possession for most of the game while outshooting the Lions 15-5.
Alabama Huntsville enters Friday's game with an overall record of 4-6 and a 3-3 conference mark. Game time is set for 6:00pm eastern.
West Alabama currently holds the GSC's longest active women's soccer win streak – 9 games – and are 9-1 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. Sunday's game against the Tigers is set to begin at 2:00pm eastern.
