ROME -- The Lady Hawks got a break from Gulf South Conference play Tuesday evening, earning a 2-0 win over NCAA newcomer Emmanuel College.
The win improves Shorter to 7-3 on the season, a win total that betters the season total from a year ago. The Lions, who've struggled in their first season of Division II play, fall to 2-7 on the season.
Cintia Lamas put the Lady Hawks on the board in the 6th minute, scoring on a feed from
Cheyenne Golden. The goal proved to be enough as Shorter held Emmanuel scoreless in the game, but
Taylor Hendrix added to the lead in the 76th minute on an assist from
Julia Raymond for the 2-0 final score.
Alden Powell played the complete game in goal for Shorter, turning in her fifth clean sheet of the season while making one save on one shot on goal – five total shots. Marina Eisenhut & Breanna Grizzle split time in goal for Emmanuel; each gave up one goal and combined for a total of seven saves.
The Lady Hawks outshot the Lions 15-5 on the night, and tallied five corner kicks to Emmanuel's two.
Shorter will return to action, and Gulf South Conference play, Friday as they travel to Alabama Huntsville before taking on West Alabama on Sunday.Â
