ROME --Â Another one goal game for the Lady Hawks goes the wrong way as Lee topped Shorter, 1-0, Friday afternoon.The Lady Hawks, who moved to 10-7 on the season and 5-7 in conference play have now dropped the last three games each by a 1-0 margin. The Flames, move to 11-4 overall and 10-1 in the Gulf South Conference.
Despite chances on both sides the game remained scoreless until the 74th minute when Kinsey Cichowitz found the back of the net for Lee. Shorter fought for the equalizer, and thought they'd found it only to see two late shots go wide and one saved by the Flames goalkeeper. Â
Lee held the slight advantage in shots, 10-9, while the Lady Hawks held the advantage in shots on goal 5-4.
Corrie Thomas led Shorter with 3 shots.
Cheyenne Golden and
Fiorella Gamarra tallied 2 each.
Katie Stachula made her first start of the season in goal for the Lady Hawks, making 2 saves over 45:55 minutes.
Alden Powell came on in the second half, tallying one save and allowing the one goal. Marbel Egquenu played the complete game for Lee and recorded 5 saves.
Shorter will close out the season Sunday on the road at Georgia Southwestern, and then turn their attention to the Gulf South Conference Tournament; where they will be the sixth seed. The remainder of the seeding for the tournament is yet to be determined, but Shorter will play Tuesday, November 4, at Valdosta State, West Alabama, North Alabama, or West Florida depending on outcomes from this weekend.
