Jackson, Tenn. --Â The Lady Hawks remain unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 win over Union Friday evening.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-23, and 25-21, respectively, and improve Shorter to 10-2 on the season and 8-0 in the Gulf South. Union falls to 4-10 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
In the first game, the Lady Hawks used a late 7-0 run to pull away and earn the win. While Game two was a back and forth affair as there were three lead changes, and 14 instances of a tie score. Shorter earned the win, however, after Union tied the game at 23, on back to back kills from
Elizabeth Dowd and
Jasmine Crook.
The final game was all Shorter despite trailing 6-0 to start the match. The Lady Hawks worked to earn the lead, and finally took it 12-11, after completing a 12-5 run. The Bulldogs tied the game at 16, but Shorter benefited from attack error on Union taking the lead for good, and earning the win.
Offensively the Lady Hawks were led by Dowd and
Erica Baker; who turned in 10 and 11 kills, respectively. While
Dena Pierce tallied 16 assists, and
Cheyenne Frady posted 14.
Dowd also led the defensive effort, tallying 16 digs in the match;
Cheyenne McLemore recorded 12.
Shorter will return to action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on Christian Brothers at 2:00pm eastern.
