ROME --Â The Lady Hawks made quick work of Mississippi College Saturday afternoon, topping the Choctaws 3-0.
Shorter moves to 17-3 on the season and 14-1 in the Gulf South Conference; while Mississippi College goes to 5-20 overall and 0-15 in the GSC.
Game scores were 25-16, 25-12, and 25-22, respectively.
In the first game the Lady Hawks pulled away early to earn the win, going on a 5-1 run after MC tied the game at 5 each and from that point on didn't let up. The second game was much of the same, as Shorter jumped out to a 5-0 lead from the start. The Choctaws worked to avoid the sweep in the third game, but came up just short despite tying the game late. Shorter answered from the 18-18 tie to close out the game with a 7-4 run.
Freshman
Tiffani Estep led the Lady Hawks attack, tallying a career high 9 kills in the match. Next for Shorter were both
Erica Baker and
Anna Graham; who both recorded 6 kills.
Dena Pierce lead with 21 assists, and
Cheyenne Frady added 15.
Elizabeth Dowd paced the defense for the Lady Hawks; recording a season high 23 digs; while
Cheyenne McLemore added 13.
Mississippi College was led by Sydney Chandler who posed 13 assists and 11 digs.
Shorter will return to action Tuesday, October 28, as they travel to Alabama Huntsville for a GSC match-up. Game time is set for 8:00pm eastern.
