ROME --Â Shorter men's soccer earned its fifth win of the season Sunday afternoon, topping Delta State 4-0 at home.
The win improves the Hawks to 5-7-1 overall and 4-2 in Gulf South Conference play; while the Statesmen fall to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the GSC.
Shorter used two goals in each half to shutout Delta State 4-0.
Ryan Horn struck first in the 15th minute on a pass from
Charlie Dennis. And, five minutes later
Irvin Espinal found the back of the net to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
After the break,
Robert Ochieng netted his first goal of the season; also assisted by Dennis, and then
Lucas Cavenco tallied a strike at the 82:35 mark to give Shorter the win, 4-0.
In total the Hawks outshot the Statesmen 23-9, and 11-1 in shots on goal.
Nicolas Ferrigno played the complete game for Shorter, making one save; while Jonathan Hilton made 7 saves for Delta State through 90 minutes.
The Hawks will return to action Tuesday evening at 7:00pm when Trevecca Nazarene visits Ben Brady Field.
