Cleveland, Tenn.—They knew it would be a tough job, but the men's soccer team was up for the challenge as they began the season by taking on the current No. 1 and defending NCAA Division II National Champion, Lynn University. Shorter rose to the occasion, but in the end they just weren't able to pull off the upset, dropping the season opener 4-1.

Jake Furman scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game to give Lynn the lead, 2-1. Shorter was able to cut the lead in half at the 24:57 mark to make it a 2-1 game, as sophomore Balazs Horvath scored his first goal for the Hawks.

Lynn added another goal in the first period to take a 3-1 lead into the break, and scored once more in the second half for the 4-1 final score.

The Fighting Knights outshot Shorter 15-5, with two players chipping in with four each.

In goal, Austen Trevers had three saves in 90 minutes of work for the Hawks; while, Harris Smiler recorded one save for Lynn.

Shorter will be back in action Sunday, as they face off against King University at 4:30pm.
