ROME--
The Shorter Men's Soccer team's six game unbeaten streak came to an abrupt end Sunday afternoon as the visiting University of West Florida Argos were able to capitalize on a sub par performance from the conference leading Hawks and claim a 4-2 decision.

The loss drops Shorter to 5-2-1 on the season, and 5-1 in the Gulf South Conference.

It took just ten minutes for UWF to take the lead in the game, as a failed clearance saw a good piece of combination play from West Florida ending up in a ball played and finished at the back post.

Just four minutes later, though, Shorter created for themselves a chance with Robert Ochieng rounding the keeper and finding himself with just the goal infront of him he was dragged down, though a penalty was given there was no further punishment for the goalkeeper. Irvin Espinal was unable to convert the penalty that followed and the Argos continued their momentum into halftime; taking the 1-0 lead into the break despite clear appeals from Shorter for a second penalty after Lucas Cavenco was dragged down six yards from goal.

Despite coming in to regroup at halftime Shorter began the second half as they had played the first , unable to keep possession and creating all of their own problems with their inability to keep the ball. Seventeen minutes into the second half West Florida was able to capitalize as two quick mistakes led to two goals and with just 20 minutes played the Hawks found themselves down 3-0.

With the score at, 3-0, Shorter appeared as they had finally woken up and after the UWF goalkeeper again came out and ripped down the Hawks forward, this time earning himself a yellow card. Shorter though was able to convert from the free kick that followed as Sam Clare scored his 1st goal of the season from Espinal's cross.

Shorter could not build on the momentum though and conceded yet again in the 27th minute after again giving away possession of the ball. Espinal scored a consolation for the Hawks with 10 minutes to go with an impressive volley from outside the box to complete the scoring at 4-2.

Shorter returns to action on Friday as the Hawks face Lee University in the first ever GSC matchup between the two schools, kick off is scheduled for 7:30 at Ben Brady Field.
