Franklin Springs, Ga.--Shorter travelled back to Emmanuel College on Saturday to compete in the NCCAA South Region final against Southern Wesleyan. In a frantic and physical game it was SWU who eventually came out on top taking the NCCAA South Region Championship.
The only goal of the game came from a corner kick in the 25th minute as SWU took advantage of a corner kick that Shorter could not clear.
In the second half Shorter took the game to SWU and mounted continuous pressure but could not find the breakthrough and goal that they needed, forcing multiple saves out of the opposing goalkeeper.
Despite the loss, Shorter continues to put in place foundations and blocks for the program to build upon in the future. Building off last seasons 4-13-1 record to finish the 2013 season with a 10-7-2 record. The game was the last for five seniors who have helped to be an integral part of the rebuilding of the Men's Soccer program at Shorter through their attitude, efforts and commitment to training and games.
Also announced during the tournment were the South Regions post season honors. Topping the list for the Hawks were three First Team All-Region recipients--
Diego Gonzalez,
Robert Ochieng and
Irvin Espinal. Nicolas Ferrigo and
Julian Kitkowski each received Second Team All-Region honors.
