Men's soccer drops regular season finale to Lee, 2-0

Box Score By Chris Riley

Cleveland, Tenn.--
Shorter travelled to Lee University Friday evening to play their final game of the regular season.

At the beginning of play the teams were level on points in the Gulf South, so there was a lot to play for as 2nd place up for grabs despite neither team being eligible for post season play.

The Hawks started the match the better of the teams, and hit the cross bar from an overhead kick in the 8th minute. Shorter picked themselves up and had the better of the play in the 2nd 15 minutes of the game, though could not finish any of the chances that they created for themselves.

With no score at halftime the game and 2nd place was to be decided in the final half, and it was Lee who took the initiative with a headed goal from a free kick in the 20th minute. With their spirits high on senior day it took just three more minutes for Lee to score their second, another header from a cross to complete the scoring at 2-0.

Shorter finished the regular season with a 9-6-2 record, much improved from a 4-13-1 record the previous season and will now await the draw for NCCAA regional play.
