Pensacola, Fla.--Shorter women's soccer fell on the road to No. 8 West Florida, 4-0.
The loss drops the Lady Hawks to 4-7 on the season, and 1-3 in the Gulf South Conference. The win improves the Argos, who last season captured the Div. II national title, to 7-0-3 overall, and 4-0-1 in conference play.
West Florida took the lead, 1-0, in the 16th minute on a goal from Shelby Bush, and added to the lead at the 35:27 mark on Sashana Campbell's first goal of the game. The Argos scored twice in the second frame for the 4-0 final score.
Despite being down 2-0 at the half, Shorter's goalie
Taylor Hays proved to be effective; making nine saves during the period. During the second half she added four more for a total of 13 saves in the game. West Florida used two different goalies during the game, which combined for three saves.
The Argos outshot the Lady Hawks 39-7 in the game.
Aline Tamiosso recorded three for Shorter;
Cintia Lamas,
Katelyn Mullenix,
Brooke Forrest and
Carleigh Butcher all chipped in with one shot each.
The Lady Hawks will hope to get back in the win column on Wednesday, October 16, as they play host to the Blazers of Valdosta State at Ben Brady Field. Game time is set for 2:00pm.
