Tyler Watkins

Tyler Watkins begins his third season as an assistant Coach with the Shorter men’s basketball program after playing two seasons with the Hawks from 2009-2011.

Watkins transferred to Shorter from Trevecca Nazarene University prior to the 2009-10 season and became an instant leader for the Hawks. In 48 career appearances for Shorter, Watkins averaged 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds, but was consistently called upon to provide energy and toughness on the defensive end of the floor, where he earned the reputation as one of the Shorter’s most effective one-on-one defenders.

Watkins had career highs of 12 points and five rebounds in a win over Logan Chiropractic in Nov. 2009 and was a career 46 percent shooter from the three-point line.

Watkins graduated from Shorter in 2011 with a degree in Sport Management and earned his Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Shorter in December of 2012.

Watkins is married to the former Loni Beth Jones and the couple resides in Rome, Ga.
