Attended Cass High School, where he played under head coach Steve Gates... Earned Defensive Player of the Year honors during his prep career.

Son of Shantae... Has one sister, Jamya... Chose Shorter because of the University's nursing program, football program and the relationship he developed with Coach Morrison, whom he viewed as more than just a football coach.
