Wil Robinson

Wil Robinson enters his second season as the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at Shorter University. Prior to Shorter, Robinson spent the previous two years at Division 1 Schools, University of Tennessee at Martin in Martin, TN and Samford University in Birmingham, AL.

In 2018, Robinson coached a secondary where seven freshmen saw significant playing time and losing only one senior, Joshua Duncan, after the 2018 season. Robinson will have the honor of coaching seasoned veteran, Nehemiah Reddish, for year two as he returns for his junior year after leading the team last year in tackles with 70. The Special Teams unit saw improvement as well, with Lewis Hayes moving from 6th to 2nd in conference Net Punting average going from 37.7 in 2017 to 42.1 in 2018. The FG unit also improved in PAT percentage from 9th in conference at .571 in 2017 to 4th in conference at .929 in 2018. FGs made percentage in 2017 tallied at .400, improved to .667 and landed the Hawks 5th in conference for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Robinson served as the Defensive Quality Control and Assistant Linebackers Coach at The University of Tennessee at Martin. He was a part of a defense that finished 3rd in Red Zone Defense at 60.6%, while also finishing 4th in the nation in Scoring Defense only allowing an average of 14.3 points per game. The Skyhawk Defense also finished 6th in total defense only allowing an average of 273.8 YPG with their starting Middle Linebacker, James Gilleylen, earning All-OVC second team recognition with 88 tackles, 9.0 TFL, 3 FF, 2 FR, and an INT.


Before UT Martin, Robinson served as the defensive quality control coach at Samford University while assisting Ross Newton with the linebackers, scouting opponents, assisting with run game preparations and handling player personnel on game day. He also contributed on special teams and recruiting.
In his first season with the Bulldogs, Robinson assisted in coaching an All-American Linebacker in Shaheed Salmon, who registered 93 tackles, with 50 of those being solo tackles. Salmon went on to play for the Birmingham Iron in the newly created AAF league in 2018. Robinson was a part of a defensive unit that finished 5th in the country for Defensive Touchdowns with 3 of the 4 touchdowns coming from the Linebacker core.

Between seasons at Samford, in the summer of 2016, Robinson spent the summer with the Philadelphia Eagles on the Bill Walsh Minority Internship. With the Eagles, Robinson spent time learning from Eagles personnel, while assisting with daily practice preparations and Eagles operational duties.

During the 2015 season, Robinson served as the Defensive Quality Control and Linebackers Coach Assistant at his alma mater, Tennessee State University. In 2014, Robinson worked as the full time Defensive Line Coach at William Penn University while gaining his master's degree in the process.

Robinson played collegiate football at The Illustrious Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee from 2010-2013. Robinson started as a true freshman and was a part of the All-OVC Newcomer team, a Defensive Captain, and a member of a 2013 FCS playoff team.

Robinson earned his undergraduate degree in three and one half years in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2013 from Tennessee State with a concentration in Mass Communications and Psychology. Robinson earned his master’s degree in Business Leadership from William Penn University in 2016.
