Travis Hawkins will begin his first season on the football staff at Shorter University. He will serve as a Graduate Assistant where he will assist the Wide Receivers.
After being born in Chicago, Illinois Hawkins moved to Georgia where he played high school football at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia. During his high school career, Hawkins was the feature Quarterback throwing for more than 3,000 yards while also rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 42 touchdowns. Hawkins would eventually sign with Tuskegee University as a Wide Receiver where he was also a part of the Track and Field Team.
During his playing career at Tuskegee University, Hawkins was a 4-year letterman for the football team (2012-2015), and also a letterman for the Track and Field team, where he ran the 100m, 200m, and 4x400m.  While at Tuskegee, Hawkins had a prominent role on offense and on special teams lining up in different positions. During his tenure at Tuskegee, Hawkins helped turn the Golden Tigers into an HBCU and NCAA Division II powerhouse. He was a part of two SIAC football championships (2012, 2014), and one HBCU National Championship (2015), and helped lead Tuskegee to two consecutive Division II playoff appearances in 2014 and 2015. During the 2014 season Hawkins helped Tuskegee University make its first ever NCAA Playoff appearance, which was later followed up by a 2015 playoff appearance that ended with a third-round playoff loss. Following the 2015 season, Hawkins worked out for the New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons for a possible undrafted Free Agent spot, before later going to Rookie Camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League.
Following his playing career, Hawkins participated in several charitable efforts and participated in service trips to South Africa, Haiti, and Bolivia. He would later receive an Honorabilis (Life of Honor Award) by the State of Alabama & Chief of Staff for his commitment to helping the community around him. Coach Hawkins later became a student assistant with Tuskegee University for the 2016 football season. During this time he helped Craig Agee coach the wide receivers to be the top receiving corp in the SIAC with an average of over 215 receiving yards per game, and 25 receiving touchdowns by the end of the year. Following the 2016 Season Hawkins became the Offensive Coordinator at Notasulga High School in 2017, and lead them to a 5-6 record while also making a first round playoff appearance. Hawkins offense had 4- 1st team All-State players. Hawkins spent the last two years as a Pass Game Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, and Cornerbacks coach at Osborne High School in Marietta, Georgia (2018 and 2019).
Hawkins earned a Bachelor degree in Physical Education from Tuskegee University in 2017. He is currently working on his Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management from Shorter University. Â
