Shorter University Athletics

Coach Matthew Burke is entering his seventh year of coaching football and his first year as the Running Backs coach at Shorter University.

Coach Burke comes from Worth County High School where he served as the Interim Offensive Coordinator, Offensive Line coach, and Technology Coordinator. After taking over mid-season as the offensive coordinator, the offense rushed for 600 yards in the final four games and raised its season total in yardage by 60 percent.

Prior to Worth County, Coach Burke served as the offensive line coach and video coordinator at Statesboro High for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Before Statesboro, he served as assistant offensive line coach, ninth grade head coach, and video coordinator at Fitzgerald High for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Coach Burke is a native of Fitzgerald, Ga, and a graduate of Georgia Southern University, with a B.S. in Mathematics. Coach Burke is married to Denae Burke, who is a teacher at Rome High School. Together they have a three year old son, Cooper.
