Charlie Hopkins begins his first season with the Hawks serving as the team’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach after putting together what has been an impressive rise through the ranks.

Prior to arriving at Shorter, Hopkins was the offensive line coach at Division II Missouri Southern in 2014 where he helped the team end the season leading the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association in rushing.

A native of Elberton, Hopkins was a four-year letterman as an offensive tackle at Georgia Southern where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2006 and during his time at GSU played a key role for a line that led the nation in rushing. Hopkins was also a member of three Southern Conference Championship teams (2001, 2002 and 2004.)

After working for Major League Baseball in charge of the pitch tracker at Atlanta Braves games, Hopkins began his coaching career as Elbert County High School in 2009 and for two season was the offensive line coach for his alma mater before making the move to the college coaching ranks.

That came in 2011 when he joined the staff at Division III Hamline University in Minnesota where for two seasons he was the assistant offensive coordinator and offensive line coach and served as the recruiting coordinator and video coordinator.

Prior to his stint at Missouri Southern, Hopkins spent a season at Division II Brevard in North Carolina where he was the offensive line coach and under his guidance the Tornados rushed for nearly 3,000 yards and averaged 4.6 per carry.
