Lee Bryant enters his sixth season as assistant coach on the Shorter University baseball staff and his ninth year coaching overall. His primary responsibilities include recruiting as well as overseeing the pitching staff both at the varsity and junior varsity level. Bryant has been instrumental in the success the hawk program has seen over the past 4 seasons. Bryants’ first recruiting class won 40 games while this second class won 39 and reach a national raking of 12th in the country while being selected to an at-large bid to play in the NAIA Regional Tournament in Azusa, CA. In those recruiting class, the hawks saw Ryan Newell get selected by the Miami Marlins in the 7th round of the MLB draft in 2012. Bryant has seen more than 15 players sign or be drafted that he has coached. The pitching staff as continued to be the corner stone of the Hawk baseball program.Â
Bryant, has spent the past three summers helping out as co-camp director of the Shorter Hawk summer youth baseball camps. In the summer of 2009, Bryant served as pitching coach of the Staunton Braves of the Valley Baseball League, helping lead the Braves to their first pennant in five years.
Before coming to Shorter in 2009, Bryant served as head assistant, recruiting coordinator and pitching coach for Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tenn., who went on to win the Region VII championship - their first title in 10 years. Before his tenure at VSCC, Bryant served as pitching coach at Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Fla.
Bryant is a native of High Springs, Fla., where he played multiple varsity sports at Santa Fe High School. He spent his first two seasons of collegiate baseball as a relief pitcher at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. While at FCCJ, Bryant led the team in appearances and saves in his sophomore season. After a brief stop at the University of North Alabama, Bryant finished his college playing career at Bluefield College in Virginia, where he served as a starter and reliever both his Junior and Senior seasons. He graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History, Social Science and Exercise Sports Science.
Bryant earned a Master’s of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix in 2010 and earned a Master’s of Art degree in Leadership from Shorter University in 2012.
