ROME, Ga. – Shorter Volleyball earned its third consecutive sweep Saturday afternoon, defeating Chowan 25-21, 25-22, 27-25 at the Winthrop-King Centre. The Hawks improve to 7-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Shorter jumped out to a 6-2 lead to open the match before Chowan battled back to keep the first set close. The Hawks continued to extend their advantage as the set progressed, fending off a late push from the visitors to take the opening frame.
The teams traded points early in the second set before Shorter used a 9-3 run to create separation. The Hawks maintained their advantage down the stretch to take a 2-0 lead.
Chowan built an early lead in the third set as Shorter continued to chip away. The visitors appeared poised to extend the match after taking a 24-20 lead, but the Hawks responded with a 6-1 run to close out the set and secure their third straight sweep.
Caroline Sivills and Lana Maluda led the way offensively for the Hawks. Sivills recorded 12 kills, 13.5 points and seven digs, while Maluda added 10 kills and 10.5 points while hitting an impressive .714.
"We are really putting it together", said Head Coach Taylor Watson. " They put their heads down and got the job done; I couldn't ask for more".

Shorter will step away from conference play Tuesday when the Hawks welcome former Gulf South Conference foe Montevallo to the Winthrop-King Centre for a 6 p.m. matchup.
