Box Score FLORENCE, S.C.- The Shorter Volleyball team suffered defeat in straight sets (16-25, 19-25, 24-26) Saturday afternoon to Francis Marion at the Smith University Center.
The loss drops the Hawks to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Hawks got off to a slow start to begin the first set, falling victim to a 12-3 run by the hosts. The Patriots continued to dominate, taking the opening set. Shorter began the second set on a higher note, taking an 8-5 lead early. Both sides continued to trade blows before the hosts unfortunately used another run to push out their lead and grab the second set.
Shorter battled well in the third set, regaining the lead late after trailing for a majority of the set. The Hawks managed to make it a 23-17 lead, but unfortunately got outscored 9-1 by the hosts to fall in straight sets.
Emily Drier had a career day for the Hawks, leading them with 10 kills as
Caitlyn Sutton, for the fifth time this season, led the way win digs with 14.

The Hawks will return to Rome this Tuesday where they will welcome Southern Wesleyan for a conference match. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET.
