ROME, Ga. — The Shorter Women's Tennis team bounced back in a strong way Tuesday afternoon, defeating Emmanuel University 5-2 at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
The Hawks found themselves in an early hole after doubles play, as Emmanuel claimed the point with wins on courts one and two to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Shorter responded in dominant fashion during singles, winning five of six matches to secure the overall victory.
Leading the charge for the Hawks was Lady Villanueva, who cruised to a straight-sets win (6-3, 6-1) at No. 3 singles. Sofia Arellano followed with a convincing 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2, while Danielle Hernandez battled through a tough three-set match to earn a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 win at No. 5.
Laura Martin added another point in dramatic fashion, rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 win in a third-set tiebreak at No. 4. Caroline Johnson rounded out the scoring for Shorter with a quick victory at No. 6 to secure the 5-2 win for the Hawks.
