ROME, Ga.- The Hawks snapped their losing skid this Tuesday with a dominating sweep of Emmanuel. The Hawks took care of business in game one with a 6-0 victory before earning a hard-fought 4-3 win in game two. The pair of wins improves Shorter to 13-30, and 7-15 in conference action.
GAME ONE
Both sides engaged in a tight contest early, with the first four innings remaining scoreless as Rylee Gattis did a great job of holding the Lions at bay with solid pitching in the circle. The Hawks broke the silence in the fifth as Zariah Webb drove in a run on a sac fly to give Shorter the 1-0 lead. Shorter then broke open the lead in the top of the sixth with a pair of RBI from Brayleigh Leone and Webb.
The Hawks added two more insurance runs on a walk with the bases juiced and a hit-by-pitch to make it 6-0 after the sixth. The Hawks held out the Lions from scoring in the final frame, as Gattis continued her excellent day in the circle, going a complete seven innings with no runs and just five hits with a strikeout. Shorter would hang on, completing the shutout.
