ROME- After thirteen innings of baseball, the Shorter Hawks suffered a 7-4 loss against Emmanuel University on Friday afternoon
The Lions opened up the first inning with an RBI fielder's choice, before tacking on three more after a quiet second and third with a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single in the fourth inning. In the home half, Drake Cobb put the Hawks on the board with an RBI single to send around Wilmer Henriquez from second to make it a 4-1 ballgame. In the fifth, Griffin Tamucci scored Michael Barron on an RBI single, and Griffin Tamucci then proceeded to drive in two more runs on two more RBI singles in the seventh and the ninth for three straight. Griffin Tamucci's final RBI single in the ninth would tie the game at 4-all for the Hawks and take the game to extras as Shorter looked for a walk-off win. In the thirteenth, Emmanuel would score the three runs they needed to grab a cushion to take them to the victory, and Shorter's offense would not be able to make up the difference in the home half, resulting in a 7-4 loss for Shorter.
Colby Schachtner and Griffin Tamucci played extremely well for Shorter, with Griffin Tamucci driving in three on three consecutive RBI singles and Colby Schachtner pitching eight innings of relief through the twelfth with five strikeouts and two walks, allowing zero runs.
