ROME- The Shorter Softball team (9-18, 3-5 CC) fell to Young Harris (13-11, 5-1 CC) in a doubleheader sweep Wednesday afternoon, falling in a 4-3 loss in game one before being defeated 7-0 in game two.
GAME ONE
The visitors struck first with an RBI double in the top of the first to grab the early advantage. Shorter responded by plating three runs in the following frame, with an RBI single from
Lizzy Mitchell and a two-run double from
Kiley Arnold to set the tone.
After a quiet couple of innings, Young Harris broke the silence with an RBI double in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to one. The Mountain Lions would even it in the fifth with a sac fly to swing the momentum their way. Shorter continued to battle, holding the Mountain Lions scoreless in the sixth. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Young Harris scored on a narrow play at first that sent a runner home to take the lead late. Shorter had one more chance in the bottom of the seventh, but could not put it together as they fell in a 4-3 final.

GAME TWO
Much like game one, the visitors drew in the first run with an RBI double to left center to begin the contest. The Hawks continued to fight, but struggled at the plate. Young Harris opened their lead up with a two-run homer to center field in the top of the fourth to make it 3-0.
The Mountain Lions continued to control the game the rest of the way, plating three more runs in the seventh to add security to their lead as the Hawks fell in a 7-0 defeat.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will hit the road this weekend as they are set to face off against North Greenville this Saturday for a doubleheader series.
